Interactive CD/DVD

CD, DVD, Blue-ray(BD) and HD DVD media make it possible to deliver interactive presentations that involve larger media files than are practical to utilize over the web. They eliminate plug-in problems, since any required software can be included on the disc. This may be the only way of reaching people with limited or no internet access. For those that do have access it's possible to tie in to an online database, like a web site does, and provide live data. Or we can extend the shelf-life of a presentation by pulling updated files from the web.

Authoring environments typically used include Macromedia Director and Flash (now Adobe products), straight up video, compiled programs and even HTML or XML. As more people gain access to more band-width the demand for interactive DVDs and CDs may decline somewhat, but there will always be a need for tangible deliverables of this sort.
