Web Promotion

Search engine optimization (SEO) is an integral part of our web related services. Sebastian Penraeth has extensive experience in intensive SEO, so your site will be in good hands. However, exhaustive SEO efforts, especially done independently of other web services, are not a primary offering of Burning Ember Arts. We can provide advice for those wishing to take additional action on their own, or we can recommend another firm that provides more substantial SEO services.

Who should consider SEO: The short answer is everyone. Ideally search engines should be considered when a site is originally built. If your business model or core mission relies on attracting web surfers and you don't have a large advertising budget then devoting time and resources on optimizing your site is a must, and this will likely impact how your site should be structured. If you generate lead flow primarily through advertising you may not need to devote as much attention to SEO, but you still want people to find your site when they don't have your ad on hand. Because the web, and the engines are changing constantly SEO should be included among continuous outreach efforts. Your marketing personnel should be educated on and actively engaged in SEO on an ongoing basis, or an SEO services company should be retained. Either way, a budget should be established for this type of work.

The basics: Google, Yahoo and MSN are the big three search engines and thus receive the majority of attention. Other engines, like Ask Jeeves, may also be important to consider. However, the big three represent the vast majority of search traffic. Generally we find that submitting a new site is unnecessary if an existing, and well regarded site links to it. Spiders crawl the web constantly and will pick up most of a site's pages relatively quickly. On the web, content is king. More is definitely better, but quality is also considered. Establishing authority on a subject is the best way to stand out in the search engines. There are some basic coding items that are important - like meta tags, alt tags and the title tag. That's where we tell the engines what words and phrases best describe the content. Links from other sites are paramount to improved ranking, especially sites considered powerful by the engines... and that relate to your site topically.

Press releases: A relatively easy and effective way to increase your site's web presence is to occasionally put out press releases (pr). There are a number of free pr publishers on the web as well as those more respected firms which charge fees. A pr can build link popularity since the publisher will link to your site, and these also get picked up by the search engines regularly. Every company or organization should become accustomed to releasing legitimate press when ever the opportunity arises.

Promotional merchandise: On a related subject, we can provide you with branded items of every sort, from T-shirts to safety glasses to popcorn makers. As gifts for employees or customers, or as giveaways at trade shows, branded merchandise can help establish your organization's identity.

Excerpt from the Wikipedia entry on search engine optimization:
Search engine optimization (SEO), considered by many to be a subset of search engine marketing, is a term used to describe a process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines, usually in "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results. Those efforts may also be seen in more narrow vertical search engines involving areas such as local search. Many site owners and consultants engaging in SEO attempt to pursue qualified visitors to a site, and the quality of visitor traffic can be measured by how often a visitor using a specific keyword phrase leads to a desired conversion action, such as making a purchase, viewing or downloading a certain page, requesting further information, signing up for a newsletter, or taking some other specific action.
